What to bring to your first visit

  • Photo ID — driver's license or state ID
  • Dental insurance card (we file on your behalf)
  • List of current medications, including dosages
  • Previous dental records or X-rays from your last dentist, if available
  • Completed New Patient forms — fill out online ahead of time to save 10–15 minutes at check-in

How long will it take?

Plan for 45 to 60 minutes for your first visit. That covers:

  • • Paperwork and review of your dental and medical history
  • • Low-radiation digital X-rays
  • • A comprehensive oral exam with Dr. Smythe
  • • Oral cancer screening
  • • Discussion of findings and a clear treatment plan

If a cleaning is scheduled with your first visit, plan for an additional 30–45 minutes.

What happens at your first dental visit

  1. 1

    Check in

Arrive 10 minutes early to wrap up any remaining paperwork. Our front desk will get your insurance verified and answer any questions.

  2. 2

    Health and dental history review

We sit down with you to go through your medical history, dental history, current concerns, and what you'd like out of your dental care. This conversation guides everything we do next.

  3. 3

    Digital X-rays

We take low-radiation digital X-rays so we can see your teeth, jawbone, and roots clearly. Digital imaging uses significantly less radiation than traditional film.

  4. 4

    Comprehensive oral exam

Dr. Smythe checks every tooth, your gums, bite, jaw joint, and performs an oral cancer screening. Nothing is rushed.

  5. 5

    Cleaning (when scheduled)

If a cleaning is scheduled with your first visit, our hygienist removes plaque and tartar, polishes your teeth, and reviews your home-care routine.

  6. 6

    Treatment plan and questions

We walk you through what we found, what we recommend, what it costs, and how it fits with your insurance. You'll leave with a clear plan and zero pressure to decide on the spot.
